…...While talking to Buffalo at Makaha Beach

One day, a frantic woman ran up to his lifeguard stand and shouted, "You have to save my husband!"

Buff calmly asked her where he was, and she pointed saying, "Right there in the waves to the right." Buff looked in the direction she was pointing to and saw her husband about 30-yards up the coastline caught in the riptide outside the shorebreak.

The waves were fair sized on that day and the shorebreak was nasty. Keeping an eye on the man, Buff squatted down, took out a cigarette and lit it. Seeing this, the woman said to him, "Aren't you going to save him?" "Not yet, he's too frisky," replied Buff. She started getting hysterical. Buff just silently puffed on his cigarette.

About a minute later, Buff put the cigarette out and walked nonchalantly towards the shore. The riptide had by then brought the man directly in front of Buff about 5-yards offshore. At the water's edge, Buff raised his hands, cupped them around his mouth and shouted, slowly,

"Hey you!

Stand up!

Walk to me!"
